Morning Walker in Drifting Fog Bank
One of the principle ways I decide whether or not to visit the park on autumn and winter dawns is by looking for fog lying in the meadow, which I can see out of my window. Fog is not only a characteristic feature of autumn weather but it is also very exciting and unpredictable. Sometimes it thickens in the morning, veiling the entire landscape in cool, soft light and sometimes it drifts in shallow, low-lying patches, glowing a luminous orange as the rising sun illuminates it from behind. This morning walker appears translucent and ephemeral, his motion-blurred outline further softened by shadows cast in mid-air. October 2009.
