The Clearing, Sydenham Hill Wood

This open area on the marked trail through Sydenham Hill Wood reminds me of a sculpture garden with the strange looming forms of ivy-covered tree stumps scattered around. While exploring this part of the woods in the morning I heard a tawny owl hooting, perhaps woken by the loud thunder accompanying the snow. The wild pond that lies to the left of this scene will hopefully be a feature of the coming summer's work. December 2010.
