Evening in Kaupanger I
The view from a small farm cabin near the town of Kaupanger on the Sognefjord is one of alpine tranquillity. The snow-covered peaks overlooking the water only occasionally emerged from their cloud caps, but warm evening light frequently illuminated the nearby bay. On this sheltered hillside the gardens of local residents are filled with fruit trees and ornamental plants, despite being further north than the Shetland islands. Microclimates like this exist all over Norway, even above the arctic circle. May 2007.
