Painted Dawn I, Corrie
A small patch of lichen-encrusted rock surrounded by particularly colourful and varied wild flowers drew my attention every morning on this stretch of beach, and the early light frequently painted the lighter lichens with vivid contrasting colours. On the first occasions I struggled to find a way of portraying the richness, but on this morning, the light and clouds made the wider landscape a coherent extension of the smaller area and as on all the very best days, seeming coincidences of colour and form tied the whole composition together. June 2009.
