Gatekeeper

This is one of the commoner species in the brown family, most of which are characterised by small eyespots on the wings, a weak undulating flight and a preference for grass and open meadows. The Gatekeeper is slightly smaller than the Meadow Brown, and has rust coloured patches on the inner surface of the wings. Herefordshire, 2006.
