Brockwell Park

My own local park and my first inspiration for photographing park landscapes. Just south of Brixton in south east London, it was originally the estate of a wealthy glass merchant. It is now one of London’s most fully-featured parks, including hills, fields, a wild meadow, a historic clock tower, Georgian mansion, multiple lakes and a miniature railway. It’s the home of the Lambeth Country Show, held every year in July. Having photographed it extensively through the seasons from 2008-2014 I’m now returning to work on a series which I hope will be a high point in the small niche of park photography, made possible by the unique Richmond Park Camera. In the near future I hope to build a similar camera out of Brockwell Park trees, which will include the great ancient oak opposite Brockwell Hall and the old box trees from the Walled Garden. This beautiful walled garden, from which one photograph was the overall winner in the 2025 International Garden Photographer of the Year awards, also features heavily in my ongoing A Rose Garden series.
